The best thing to do is change them if the rest of the motor is worth saving. If you let it go long, it'll destroy the crank (if it hasn't already). This is really a pretty easy job if you have a little skill and tools. If it's in a truck it's easier. If in a car, you'll have to loosen the motor mounts and jack up the engine to pull the pan. If you've never done it but have a little mechanical aptitude, buy a manual. If the journal is in ok shape, I'd polish it with 400 grit sandpaper until all high spots are sanded down (this can be done by putting a piece of sandpaper all the way around the journal, wrapping it with a rope and rolling the sandpaper back and forth). If the journal is ruined, you will have to replace the crank. Sorry, but it won't last long if not fixed, and there really isn't a way to prolong it. Chances are more likely it's a rod bearing. If you are to take the pan off, I'd do both and an oil pump while in there. These parts are cheap.

Thicker oil is not recommended. It may keep the noise down, but it doesn't stop the internal damage to the engine. In addition, using too thick an oil can give you too much oil pressure, causing the oil seals to blow (I made this mistake myself a few years ago, and it was one hell of a mess - and an additional repair bill.) if the engine is already starting to knock, the bearing is not going, it's already gone. Delaying the repair only adds to the bill - if you leave it, the crankshaft may need to be replaced, not just the bearings. Also, a bad main bearing can cause a drop in oil pressure within the crankshaft oil galleries - which also provides lubrication to the big end bearings (connecting rod bearings) and cooling for the underside of the piston, as well as lubrication of the main bearings. You could be looking at a complete engine rebuild, and not just a bearing job.

Oh, the engine is bumped off. in order that which you guard your sanity. as properly it is not basic to drink beers once you're below. mutually as I heard that's completed, i does not waste my time doing "a million/2 a job" There must be a great reason you're questioning bearings. And get that shown by skill of unknown persons>screw your buds. in case you have low oil tension, the main straight forward fix that works is greater thickness of motor oil. there is an entire variety of thicknesses from 5W-20 to 30W directly to 20W-50 to 80W "kit oil" to tar. And the oil ingredients including STP. certainly gets the oil tension up. no remember if that's in that undesirable a shape, according to danger yet another truck?

I was a used car salesman for 20 years and we used to fill the engines wit a combination of 50 w motor oil and a bucket of sawdust! This made the engines run quiet just like new! and best of all the customer would not find out until we got their check cleared (SUCKERS!)

not a good idea beacuse the longer u let it go the more damage it will cause. but u can use a thicker oil insted of 10w30 try 10 50. but i would not sugest it all it does is fill in the gap more betwen the bearing and the crank shaft and kepp the noise down

Same as any vehicle. Regular oil changes and reasonable driving style. No fast starts in cold weather and don't over rev
