According to the slideshow from the source below, it seems that only a minority is, taken all things into account, unhappy. (see the slide on people responding to the question about happiness). If that is the primary indication, the majority does not appear to require to heal. Sure, the poor and the unfortunate needs a helping hand to help themselves always, and that they would take responsibility of themselves thereafter.

On other parts of the slide show, the confidence in press and politicians (our countries leaders) are trending ever downwards, from average. That is what needs urgent healing. Without both the politicians and the press depressing the country, we probably are as happy as can be. How can they heal? Have integrity in their profession and conducting themselves is a start. Create a positive instead of an adversarial environment, report as many positive news as scandals or sensationalism would be refreshing.

Good question. I'm not sure. It is annoying how racism still exists in America, which came from slavery. That was so long ago, nobody currently alive was around to see or do any of that. Why can't we just forget about that stuff and move on like it never happened?

South Africa is a good example, they had a Truth & Reconcilliation commitee to lay out everything bad that happened during aparthied, i think that helped people move on. There are interesting things happening in Rwanda at the moment too following the hutu/tutsi massacres. Look it up at the BBC website. www.bbc.co.uk

I think education, understanding and acceptance... if people hold on to incorrect and antiquated ideas about other groups of people, they can never heal... (I'm thinking racism here...)

1st and foremost moderates have to replace radicals in postions of political power/leadership.

2nd people have to become more open minded & respectful of other people beliefs or mores.

That's it.
