The Song was like a story told by this guy....something about walking by a lake with a girl something about the moon in the lyrics...the girl ends up going missing and the sheriffs end up knocking on his door thats all i can think of hope someone can help me....Thanks

no i don't think it was i shot the sheriff it was about the guy being accused of her going missing and the song was mostly about him denying that he had anything to do with the girl going missing

it goes.. "Ieft her by the river, I swear i left her safe and sound.. i need to get back to the river.." there were several versions written, but i cant tell you the name or artist.. sorry. it did cause a bit of contriversy when it first came out
