When I'm starting my car it looks like it's not getting fuel, so I start to step on and off gas pedal and turning ignition key. It usually takes me few times to do like that to start my car. And then I'm driving espeacially in bad traffic, when I need to stop and quickly start going again, my car's engine starts making strange noise and jerk, and my car accelerate very slow. So maybe somebody know what is the problem and how much would it cost to fix it?

I would definetly get the Fuel Pump or Fuel Filter checked out asap! You don't want to have a problem with acceleration in traffic. $$ you are going to spend about 50.00 dollars total for a Fuel Filter installed. As for Fuel pump you are looking at 130 - 140.

:)- Sorry if bad news.

This car, based on it's age, should be approaching 100K miles or more. A major servicing is probably in order.

Your problem could be caused by a number of things, but new fuel filter is a good place to start. An air filter may be in order, spark plugs if they are the originals, fuel injectors may require cleaning, it could even be a fuel pump.

If you do the routine maintenance listed in the owners manual and it is still having problems a good shop can access the car's computer and develop a list of failure codes. I have seen the diagnosis for as little as $50 and it goes up from there. Many shops will not charge you for a separate diagnosis if you have the car repaired.

Good luck on this. And BTW, I do think it is fixable. It is probably something small, your car with reasonable care should go 200K to 250K without any major problems.

I have a 97 cavalier with 267,000 miles.

Maintenance that needs to be done

- oil changes every 3-4000 miles
- pvc valve, fuel & air filter every 15,000 miles
- tuneup every 100k miles (with all Chevy parts- DON'T SKIMP)
- radiator fluid change every 125k-150k miles

Your specific problem at the moment- change the fuel filter & the pvc valve. You can make a cavalier go 175-200k miles if you take care of it.. If you don't, they die around 125k- especially if you ignore the 100k tuneup.

Sounds to me like the car hasn't had any scheduled maintenance done. Could be anything, but I'd start with oil and filter, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new cap and rotor, new air filter, new pcv valve and breather cap, fuel filter, 02 sensor(s).

Might have to change your fuel filter or your sending unit/pump.

I'm no mechanic. but maybe a new fuel filter would help.
