Sheesh! A lot of cynicism here! The Oscars are the result of "show biz kids making movies of themselves", and then patting themselves on the back. An industry's chance to parade its self-perceived and self proclaimed greatness around. Too self-referential, too solipsistic to mean much.
But the Nobel prizes mean something, even though their selection has been politicized lately. The science awards still signify real achievement.

The Oscar's puts some crackhead on the stage who talks for two hours without saying a word. On self indulgence alone I think this is a PASS.

The Nobel Prize. Jimmy Carter has on and Rush Limbaugh has been nominated for one. Now one is a joke the other sad, I'll leave it to you to decide which is which. Yep, another PASS

The Oscars because it is well known and people know who the actors are since they go to movies or see them on tv or rent them.
