How long is it considered safe to be in labor? I've had 30 minute apart contractions since Friday. I'm always calling my Midwife with questions, so please try and help me before I have to resolve this issue with her. I'm not in unbearable pain, just want to make sure that a loooonnnnng labor is normal. My son is still moving so I don't think this is putting him under stress. I know Doctors as well as Midwives say to go in once the contractions hit every five minutes, but how long does a woman have to wait to get to that point in her labor? Thanks everyone!!

I'm 4 centimeters and 70% effaced.

My first labor was induced due to preeclampsia. And I labored--hard--for 52 hours, then pushed for three, and ended up with an emergency C-section due to fetal and maternal distress.

And my water was broken for about 36 of those hours. I had to have an antibiotic once it was clear than my baby would not be born within 24 hours of water breaking.

So.

A long labor is OK, and your contractions are still really far apart. Unless your water breaks, you're better off at home, where you can easily distract yourself, rest uninterrupted, shower, walk, make phone calls, etc. Your midwife knows the deal, your baby is moving...just hang in there, and don't head to the hospital until the contractions are much closer together or your water breaks.

As long as your water hasn't broken, there really isn't a worry. I have heard of women being in labor for days. I was in labor 3 days before I actually had my daughter (though I didn't really feel the contractions. . .). My actual labor in the hospital went 24 1/2 hours.

You will need to go in when the contractions are about 5 minutes apart, or when you are told to get there. Just keep monitoring things, and relax. Walking around will help move things along, as will relaxing.

Good luck!!

Your contractions are still reallyfar apart. call your midwife and ask her to see you and check to make sure that everyithing is ok. She can listen the the heartbeat to make sure that there is no distress. If your water hasn't broken, you should be okay. Start walking, it may help things get a move on down there. Many women swear by vaccuuming their homes. Good luck and jsut think, your baby will be here soon.

When I was in labor with my first son I had a fetal monitor hooked up to where , when there was a contraction I would know. But your son is safe, Its usually about the time when you are about 3 cm dilated.congratulation on the boy.

If you are worried about baby go to labor and delivery and have them out you on a fetal monitor. Just say you are worried and you're not leaving until they make sure the baby is not in distress.
