when i got my ipod, the box holding it contained 4 things, the ipod itself, the manual, the headphones, and a white plastic thing that looks like a stand or holder... what is that WHITE PLASTIC THING? and what is it used for?

Its a docking station, you can use it on your desktop to slot your iPod into or if you ever buy an iPod Hi-Fi it allows your model to fit in just right in the gap.
By itself, itspretty useless. - i never used mine before i bought a hi-fi with iPod slot :)

It's an adaptor for the base station that Apple sells separately for about $30. It just allows you to plug the ipod in so it stands upright. All you need is the USB cable that should have been included in your package.

its just a case. its not very good but it does keep ur ipod from getting scratched but i would get a real case if u want to protect it since the 1 that comes with it isnt very good.
