We want to rent a cabin where we can have a great winter holiday and a family reunion of sorts. Where would you recommend we travel? Colorado? Montana? Idaho? Somewhere else? What towns? We don't especially need restaurants. We need well-stocked grocery store and a place with toboganing/sledding/skiing available. If you know of, or own a place in the area where we should go, please let me know this as well. Thanks for your replies.

Since you're posting this in the Denver section, my guess is that you want to stay in the continental United States and avoid going all the way to Alaska, Canada, or Finland, as the other answers thus far suggest.

Not that there's anything wrong with those places, of course. It's just that they're far from pretty much everywhere!!!!

Anyway, to be honest with you, the Rocky Mountains are hit-and-miss for snow. It's all there is to it. I mean, regardless of where you go (assuming you actually go to the mountains and don't stay in Denver, Boise, or Salt Lake City), you stand a GOOD chance of having a snow-covered holiday, but there are no guarantees whatsoever.

So, keeping that in mind, here's a list my favorite ski towns...any of which would make a fantastic vacation for your family:

Jackson Hole, Wyoming (Grand Targhee, too!)
Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Sun Valley, Idaho
Heavenly, California
Park City, Utah
Vail, Colorado
Deer Valley, Utah
Breckenridge, Colorado

Do some research on these destinations and see which one has what you're looking for. Really, you can't go wrong with any of 'em!!!

it's great to have holidays in Finland. it's snowing every winter. and of course it's a good place for skiing. you can rent a house everywhere you want. but if you prefer go skiing it would be better to go in the North of Finland. and by the way, there are always Christmas sales in this period of time.
