they just love to go around and around on the wheel, mine used to climb ladders for treats. Yes they are trainable. Food is a wonderful motivator.

You can quite easily teach hamsters to climb upstairs too, but of course this makes them harder to find when they escape as they could be anywhere in the house. Often they learn on their own to climb whenever they escape but a good way to get them started is simply to place them on a stair. Hamsters have little or no depth perception so so can be reluctant to jump (although many have been known to act like lemmings)and faced with a situation where there is little room to manoeuvre they might prefere to explore upwards. They'll probably stand up leaning on the stair - to help them on their way place another object or hand next to the stair so that they can reach the top. Eventually they'll dig their paws into the carpet and drag themselves up. When they're more confident they'll know something lies beyond the wall and will jump up or down quite readily, although sometimes they might stubbornly sniff around for a while first.

Working on the premise that hamsters are like mice, yes you can. They however need to learn simple tricks by positive reinforcement. For example, overtime they put their paw on a certain place they get a treat. They have to want the treat however, for this to work. This will have to be repeated over and over. You can not remove the food like your can with a dog as they will not do the trick simply for praise. I taught my hamster to climb a ladder, it took months. Don't expect it to sit, roll over, stay, those type tricks are too complex. go get out a book on training mice and rodents. it should help you.

ya sure you can. Like u know how in labs they teach mice to find the cheese, and eventually they learn different routes without the cheese. try building a maze or obstacle course. its a great way for the hamster to get excercise and it will become smarter.
Hope that helps!

yes of course but it depends on what you want to teach it hamsters can learn simple tricks, not liketjhe ones a dog can do, i had one and it learned how to sit up and beg if i was giving it food, but then again it probably just did that because it wanted food but i say you definitly can xx xx

yes they are trainable and you can disipline them as well. we had a hamster that would bite and one day I popped him on the head(not really that hard) and he never bit again so, yes, they are very smart- much like mice or rats.

you can train them if you give them enough treats, but i think its more fun just to enjoy their company! anyway, what kind of tricks were you thinking of, there arent many. maybe you should get a dog...
