I have a 91 Chevy Beretta, and every time I start the car up it makes a strange noise while starting up and idling, I can't really put it in words but it's almost like a siren noise when I first start the engine up, it only happens when the car is cool, if I've alreafdy drove and the engine is warm it doesnt make the noise, and there is also another noise that the car makes when I make a turn, left or right, it's like a loud deep creeking noise, and you can also hear the siren noise during turns, it only happens when I turn, my father said his did this and it was a tie rod he needed can anyone tell me what this may be? and how much it'll cost to fix the problem?

Well without proper diagnostics its just best guess, but it sounds like your power steering pump and/or steering gear rack are having problems. Price? depends on location and who you take it to to have it fixed. Most independant shops are cheaper than dealerships but they may still have get the parts at a dealer. Take it in and have it checked out at a local trusted and certified shop. They will be able to tell you in much more detail what the problem is.

Sound to me that you have a loose power steerin belt. that would explain the siren noise when you start the car and make turns. your power steering fluid might also be low, which would make more of a growling noise. As for the creeking noise, you might have some worn out suspenssion components such as ball joints, tie rods, or contol arm bushings. Take the car to your mechanic to verify and get an estimate. Most shops will 1 to 2 hours usually $65-$105 per hour for diagnosis. Good luck.

I had similar problem with my 94 Cavalier. The sound that I had when my engine was cold was a screeching sound. However I don't think my cavalier made the same noise then your Beretta does. I replaced the A/C compressor and there is no problem now!

I sounds like your Power steering pump is either low on fluid or you will need to replace your pump. It is fairly easy to replace the pump your self! I did mine myself. However I have a 4cyl.

The creaking sound while making turns could be a few things. Look at your sway bar end links($25. plus labor), ball joints(about $150-200 plus labor) or your tie rods($100 plus labor)

I hope this info helps!
Good Luck!!

A tie rod wouldn't make noise when you start it, but a bad power steering belt or pump would, also on the turns. Could be something else going out as well. Take it to the dealership.

Definitely the power steering pump. May be low on fluid, but these have been known to go out. Check your power steering fluid level...if it's good, then there is a problem with the pump or it's not getting any return because of a pinched line. Good luck.

check your power steering fluid level it could be the steerig pump and its unlike that a tie rod end will cause noise at startup because its a suspention component unrelated to the engine, the cost of this repairs may vary.it depends parts/labor cost.

Sounds like your father may be right, it could be a tie rod, and or it could also have a separate problem. Have you checked your power steering fluid??

It could be a rod, you will want to check the power steering fluid as well.

Sounds like your power steering pump is on the fritz. check your fluid level first if that doesn't work have someone else turn the wheel while you listen to see it it is the pump.
