If your arrested and they have no current charges on you are they (the law) allowed to hold you more than 24 hours before they file charges on you?

They can hold you up to 48 hours without pressing charges. After that, an attorney can and should file a writ of habeus corpus.

Retain an attorney- you have a right to one- and find out. Or you could check the city's penal code, possibly online, to see what the law is for the time line to charge alleged criminals.

If no unlawful conduct has been alleged, and if no charges or tickets have been issued, then you should be released immediatly.
