From work experience and personal opinion I hate Land Rovers. They LEAK from everywhere. Oil, power steering, coolant and every other fluid, from every hose and gasket. I think they are a disaster to work on, and they can be very expensive to maintain.

If you check fluids regularly, don't mind the spots in your garage, and want a vehicle that will go down in value very quickly go for it.
They are a great vehicle but due to the low resale value most people that get them can not afford to maintain them properly. The past comments about what leaks are very accurate and expect the first tune up to cost at least $1000.00usd due to the problems with coil packs(the wonderfull location of them).
I love rovers and they are very capable off road and offer the best visibility of anything i have ever driven but just remember that the cost of upkeep will be higher then an American or Japanese SUV.
As far as Mr save the planet goes you will find that the gas mileage is not that bad but its not a little prius so those people will never be happy.
A few that I have serviced in the past are around the 200,000 mile mark its all in the upkeep.

Hi I've work with landrovers for over 15yrs. The LandRover discovery tdi models are easier to repair than the later td5 models.
The Discovery has numerous failures regarding transmission losing drive on 300/200tdi models and later td5 have the same problem with oil leaks from g/box, diffs and transfer boxes.
Make sure you take someone who's a mechanic if you do consider buying one.Check its got a full service history.
Look for signs of corrosion on rear taildoors at lower panels on rear wings and inside rear door apeture.Discovery tdi are prone to serious corrosion on these areas.

Hi Ashley the main problems with discovery's were camshafts breaking head gasgets and power steering box's leaking. We have discos that have done over 200,000 miles if reguarly serviced.80,000 miles should not be a problem but check the service history. Work on Range Rover in UK. Regards Mick

My daughters Rover has been a pain. Besides being a gas hog, with various oil leaks the parts cost about three times that of most cars. Do your self a favor and buy Japanese
