Last night was more Neil being a buttface and looking for trouble, because as Rick Jeanneret said, the man is clearly in control of the NHL. How any player has the unmitigated gall to look a reporter square in the face and proudly proclaim that he tries his best to hurt anyone he can on the ice, then follow through on it and receive no penalty from the league is beyond me. Yes, I think this is the beginning of a large and slightly ugly rivalry, but I also think it is something that should not be the way it is. Gary Buttman (NOT A TYPO!) has failed the players and coaches yet again in not addressing problems like this. Everyone loves an emotional game, and that includes a good scrap or two, but no player on any team should feel so overconfident that he announces his intention to injure someone, follows through, and then receives no penalty whatsoever from the league. That's unacceptable, and I hope that this new rivalry develops into something besides the idiotic garbage it is now.

Being a longtime Wings fan, I to have to say that you cant compare that rivalry. That being said, I dont know anyone who could say that the Wings/ Aves rivalry is anywhere near what it used to be. I even think that the best games for the Wings now are with Nashville. But I can certainly understand your question. I think in the NHL right now, that Buffalo vs Ottawa rivalry has to be the best. I actually went to a friends house, who has the NHL package, just to watch the 2nd game last night, and I certainly wasnt dissappointed. It was one of the most exciting games all year. I cant even imagine what will happen if those 2 meet in the playoffs. wouldnt that be something. So it is the best rivalry right now, But I think you will have to give it a few years, and they have to meet in conference finals a few times for it to be compared with the Wings and Ave. But Im hopeing it does become comparable, because that is exactly what hockey needs.

The Ottawa Buffalo rivalry can't be compared to the rivarly between Detroit and Colorado back in the 90's. The Sabres and Senators don't have any real tough guys on their team compared to the tough guys back then on the Wings and Avs. Claude Lemieux, Adam Foote, Adam Deadmarsh, Darren McCarty, Vlady Konstatinov, Festiov. That was an excellent rivalry.

You could have used a much better rivalry example. The Avs/Wings were never as violent as the Sens/Sabre's have been in the last two games. A better comparison would be to the Oilers/Flames rivalry, although I don't think Ottawa and Buffalo will ever be that heated.

no NO AND NO
sabres are too much of a skill team then a physical team and the senators always seem to get into these fights like with the flyers but im a flyers fan and nothing has happened since that massive fight that was a lot better then buf-ott
and the avs and red wings are teams that are good evey year so its always a contest the sabres really just started to become a domminating team a few years ago and you never know what will happen now with drury and briere being free agents at the end of the year and they will probly only be able to sign 1

No,

I do not think it will become a big rivalry, and what happened thursday was a one time affair. They played last night and there were only a couple of fights (neil vs. mair, mccgratten vs. peters).
I also think that the sens vs. leafs is a way bigger rivalry, and that the flames vs. oilers is the best rivalry now.

I dont know about that, that would def. be awesome though. Those were some good games in the 90's and early 2000's.

I think they could be if the Sens could actually perform in the playoffs.
