Welfare reform is 11 years old now. It used to make up about 8% of the budget and now only makes up a third of that ( a little over 2%). Most of the poor and unemployed are NOT given welfare of any kind. Those that do receive it can only get it for 2 years. Most who should qualify are denied, even the disabled and those who paid into it. The majority of social assistance (about 1/3 of budget if you don't count that this has been hijacked for war) goes to the elderly and severely disabled. While I agree that many elderly are middle class or rich and don't need federal assistance, and many people receiving benefits are foreign and shouldn't be on it, most of the poor are not receiving any kind of benefits or are only receiving TEMPORARY inadequate benefits that they paid into.
When will the haves stop making war on the have nots? In fact, when will they stop wasting the majority of the budget on war while blaming it on the poor?

Your question stems from the belief you have in the lies perpetrated in the name of "fairness". Only about 2% of your taxes go into "welfare", which I assume is what you are talking about. There is a time limit now on the receiving of "welfare", and it can really be looked at only as a stop-gap method of keeping people alive until they can find "meaningful employment" (Good luck on that one, Folks!!!)
If you really want to talk about "plunder", look at war, "corporate welfare", mismanagement of all government programs, trips, meals, cars, housing etc. for government employees, etc.
Do your homework before you ask questions like this, and, maybe next time, you'll enter the discussion as a well-informed questioner.

It depends on the state your in and the elected official's ideas of were money is needed and what the budget plan is. In my state our governor is a democrat who wants more taxes to help with immigrant education. He wants to allow tuition reimbursements for immigrants but my daughter is not eligible for such special opportunities because we don't fit the category. We have been American citizens all of our lives and all generations before us, however we will need to help pay for a foreigner to become educated while we struggle to have our children get the same education on our own. He is all about taxing us to death. Immigrants are getting a great chunk of our social security benefits here as well. They believe that it is an entitlement for them. By time my husband and I are in need of getting some of the money that we have paid into social security there will be none left. We have worked all of our lives and they just keep giving away our $$$ to those who don't work. The liberal society is killing us here.

According to the US Office of Managment and Budget,(2005) of every "welfare" dollar (that is entitlement) collected. 16 cents goes to administer the fund, 15 cents goes to "individuals" which would include your definition of welfare babies etc. another 9 cents goes to contingency funds. At this point the contingency fund has no money in it. It was appropriated for the war in Iraq.
The other 60 cents goes to corporate welfare. You are aware, are you not, that for instance when Coca Cola advertises its products in Japan, the advertising funds come from the welfare fund in the form of foreign market development tax credits. in other words YOU pay for it.
The theory is that giving the US corporation a tax break creates jobs in the US, even when the advertised Cocoa Cola product is produced at one of their facilites in Japan.
You may not like it but those regulations can only be changed by congress.

thats a damn good question and those people that say nobody wants to be on welfare are nuts because i've known people that make more kids just to get more welfare!I think they need to stop giving foreigners 1% tax for 5 years just because they are foreign!let them pay just like us and struggle just like every other american working man or woman!theirs no shame in that but theirs shame in sucking the working mans tax money away from him just because some people are too lazy to take care of themselves its easier for them to sit on their asses and collect a check because the government dont feel the impact of giving our money to them we do!all I can say is write your congressman and ask them thats what their job is is being our voice in the government!SECURE THE BORDERS WHILE YOUR AT IT DUMBASS GOVERNMENT WE THE PEOPLE DEMAND IT!!!!!

With a Democrat congress get ready to give a little more of your money to welfare slackers if they have their way and repeal the Bush tax cuts. They feel it is better to take your hard earned money and give it to the permanently job challenged.

As much as they can get. They demonstrate their "compassion" with your money.
I was surprised when Mr. Big-Spending Liberal presidential candidate Walter Mondale's income tax information was published and I learned that Mr. Compassion spent a lower proportion of his own money for charities than I, Mr. Mean-Spirited Republican, had that year. The big-hearted folks in government seem to like spending your money, but not their own.

while you're whining about the nickles and dimes tossed at individual Americans who may or may not deserve government assistance you might want to look into the BILLIONS and BILLIONS of your hard earned dollars going to HUGE entities in the form of CORPORATE WELFARE. **rolls eyes**

How much more is going to go into funding the war effort? There's plenty of government waste to complain about.

Chris says 30%....I'd say its closer to 40%.
Of course, the scary thing is, those that don't work aren't realy getting all that much from the latest statistics. Makes you wonder where the government is REALLY putting that money, doesn't it?
