Hughes is going to be limited in the number of innings the yankees will let him pitch this year. He'll be a late season call up or a replacement for an injured starter. Mussina, Pettite, Wang and Igawa are locks (Igawa is getting rave reviews). Looks like the 5th starter will be Pavano or Karstens right now with the edge going to Pavano because of the huge contract.

Phil Hughes is the best pitcher to come out of the system since Mo Rivera. They need to keep him in the minors as long as they can and let him grow into the player he should be. Hughes has the potential to be a top tier pitcher in the MLB, but not if he is put in too early. They have plenty of pitchers who had productive seasons filling last year, and the 5th pitcher spot can be done by a number of people. If pavano fails Hughes should still be kept in the minors.

They have a 5th starter. The starting 5 should be:
Mussina
Pavano
Pettite
Igawa
Wang
I think that if they trade Pavano, which I pray for every day, then you'll see them bring up Hughes. If someone gets hurt during the season you'll see Hughes.
Hughes is a stud. I am psyched!

they probably should, but they'll use pavano because they paid him a ton of money and don't want to put it to waste...in the end though hughes will come up and replace pavano, who will be cut or traded...of course i'm rooting for hughes to stay in AAA because i want to see him pitch, i live 10 minutes away from where the scranton/wilkes-barre yankees will be playing

It depends on how well Pavano does. Hughes is young and is making quite an impression. He should be up by mid season
