Ok so I changed one of the CPU Features in the CMOS (I turned AMD Cool and Quiet On). Anyway the BIOS Reset my PC but only the fans spun at a rapid rate and It did not POST. So I reset the CMOS by using a jumper on my Motherboard. Thhe pc then booted and POSTed'. Now the cmos asked my to reset the clock frequincy's. Well I did not know what they were. Therefore i Loaded fail-safe defaults. Now I am wondering if loading fail-safe defualts will reset the clock frequincy's. I did not build the PC. It Is A Gateway GT5220.

Listen: ust load the regular defaults. The FAILSAFE will make the computer slow - depending on the BIOS you have. Think about it - failsafe - means that no matter what, the bios will not fail you. means that it sets things in such a way that there are no risks being taken. Every memory operation will be checked EVERY time for accuraracy - EVEN IF the higher level application checks it again!

POST stands for Power On Self Test. It is ALWAYS done. A quick POST does not test memory as rigorous, and assumes that memory is generally good, and that your higher level OS will report a problem (Yes, windows WILL report).

So - just load the optimized defaults - not the failsafe. From there, tweak what you want - but leave the clock freq alone.

From a quick yahoo search that GT5220 should have an AMD 64 X2 3800+ CPU, default settings would be:

Bus Speed: 201 MHZ
Multiplier: 10

The fail safe defaults should be ok - if you want to tweek the clock frequency search for the motherboard manual online which should give the details of what settings to use based on your chip and ram.

It is the clock frequency that needs (needed) resetting and not the clock as in time ? - resetting the cmos may reset the time

you probably did a nasty flash era. No quantity of resetting the bios is gonna help. Why you human beings insist on flashing bios structures at the same time as there is not any reason to succeed in this until eventually the mfg has a particular hardware subject is previous me. Lemme wager. You idea it would improve your computer. you'll favor to take it to a specialist and characteristic him solder in a clean chip.

yes anytime you set failsafe or (default) settings it refers the computer to factory settings.
