I think that Santana, Carpenter, and Halladay will win 20 this year, provided that they stay healthy all year. I think hitters are getting that good, more teams are solid throughout the lineup as opposed to strong just at the top. I think the bigger reason though is that there is a lot more parity in the league. No team won 100 games last year, and with the five man rotation they get less opportunities to start. But these three are all great pitchers and all three of their teams will depend heavily on them to provide Cy Young award-type seasons, so I think they can win 20.

As for the .400 average, I imagine that at some point it will be done. Once again the 5 man rotation plays a part, with hitters facing a Santana type once in 5 days insead of four. But I don't see any hitter playing today reaching that mark. I would say Ichiro, but he gets so many at-bats due to hitting leadoff and his low walk count that he would need nearly 300 hits to get to .400. As a Twins fan I would love to see Mauer do it but with the pounding a catcher takes I don't see him ever doing it. The other hitter who I think could do it if he develops is Robinson Cano. He has a sweet swing and can hit to all fields.

There may be a 20 game winner this year, with talent like Santana, Halladay, Oswalt, Zambrano and Carpenter around. But with a 5 man rotation that works out to 32 starts a year and with the bullpen playing a larger role in the game than it was 20 years ago 20 game winners will be more scarce.Starting pitchers have less control over their records than they used to. With the chance for less decisions, you really have to have a great year to win 20 anymore.
The last chance their was for a .400 hitter was Tony Gywnn when he batted ..394 in the 1994 strike year, and he was always a better hitter in August and September that was cancelled out. I dont think Mauer has a shot at it because he is a catcher and that that takes a toll on a player, despite being a great young hitter. the only player I see that even has a remote chance is Ichiro, who has speed, and deliver hits on a regular basis, but hes always hacking and has too few walks that eat up those time at bats that add up to a .400 average.

Yes, there will be a twenty game winner this year. The obvious pick is santana. The reason for no 20 game winners isn't that the hitters are THAT good, but the pitchers aren't getting enough run support and the bullpen also can screw them over. Take Oswalt for example, he won twenty games in 04 and 05, and could have easily done it in 06 had the bullpen held up and the hitters provide him with more run support.

As for the 400 hitter, there won't be one anytime in the near future. My money's on mauer or ichiro.

I believe there will be some 20 game winners in the NL as well as the AL.The 20 game winner has gone the way of the middle reliever,or bullpen in general, the managers just don't leave the pitchers in the game like they used to.I don't think there will ever be a player bat 400 through a major league season again.I'm 49 and have never seen it and dont expect to.I hope to see a couple more 300 game winners through

I think you'll se a few 20 game winners this year. Santana for one, Wang another and possibly Halladay or Verlander.
To be a .400 hitter you need a lot of luck as well as Talent. I don't see anyone doing that this season.

20 game winners -- maybe one or two due to reduced starts in the five man rotation and with interleague play -- sometimes hitting sometimes not-- can play havoc on rhythm.

.400 hitter -- not in my lifetime. When Teddy Ballgame hit .406 in 1941 (Bill Terry - a catcher- hit .401 in 1930 for the last NL'er) he faced a pitcher maybe four times a game and not like today's starter twice, setup once and closer once. Plus in the 154 game sched you played each team 22 times (only 8 teams in leagues then) not the unbalanced deal you have now.

i think that Santana will win twenty. Mauer might eventually hit .400
I also think that Wang might win twenty. Had 19 last year and he did not pitch for like two weeks or something in the summer. Robinson Cano will bat .400 at some point. He carried the Yanks down the stretch last year. He seemed to get better every game.

The pitchers are allowed to go 6or 7 innings now that's consided a quility start now? Since kthats the case, the if the bullpen blows the starters lead He dosen't get the win if they make a comeback or the opposeing team only ties the score and the same team wins. The pitcher who blows the game cam emd up winnning the game or lose it.

No, i think of it is going to upload up. i think of pitch count variety is a sturdy concept and bosses shop on with the plan is visionary. Take Charlie Manuel and Bobby Cox as an occasion. Charlie constantly enable his commencing pitchers pitches way greater advantageous than a hundred pitches. perchance in a hundred and ten~a hundred thirty variety, his pitchers gets drained after 10 starts or so (Roy Halladay) and arm harm possibility (JA Happ). Bobby Cox sticks to his plan and decrease pitchers in 7 innings or a hundred pitches remember on the area and his self assurance interior the pen. this is the type you take care of a baseball group. injuries hardly happen to Braves pitchers progressed from youthful, of direction with some exceptions like John Smoltz. nicely, if the pitcher is ruined interior the minors (Horaciao Ramirez, arm surgical operation in the previous starting to be a member of the majors) or Mike Hampton (ruined in the previous connect the Braves), there is not any longer something Bobby can do approximately it. i think of on protecting his gamers on my own, Bobby could desire to be in HOF for that.
