Willow of any nature. weeping ones are the best looking though.

Viburnum - they like good moist soil and will happily grow - pulling moisture out of the ground - You can get different colours as well - flower toe or three times a year
Coleanthus - like dry or moist areas - but like sun as well - can grow big - two types - ground cover and tree shrub -
Lavatera and Lilac also will drink loads

Hydrangeas drink loads and are really easy to grow. (I use them for a drainage purpose too).
Evergreens are good because they have to keep drinking through the winter aswell to stop their leaves drying in the harsh winds. Viburnum tinus would be good.

You need plants /shrubs that like alot of water.....astillby...is one of many ...go to www.rhs.co.uk and the web site will give you plants that you need...hope this helps
