sometimes people need a change from the depressing War news

Unfortunately, we are suffering from depressing news overload. People can only take so much of starting out their day thinking about death and destruction every day of the week. I think tuning it out is a self-defense mechanism. It is sort of like choosing to watch a sitcom vs. a crime drama after a long day at work. Watching Britney's train wreck or Anna Nicole's drama takes people's mind off of the reality of life. Whether we admit it or not, we enjoy seeing the "rich and famous" suffer. Sometimes, I am as guilty as the next person of tuning out what is happening around the world. But, you are right that we must be concerned and aware. I don't know the answer to balancing the two.

I don't pick the stories the media covers but frankly if I never hear of Britney or Ana again that will be just fine.
