You would normally ask a closed question if you want a simple fact. Is London the capital city of England? Answer Yes.
Closed questions generally have a Yes/No answer.
An open quesion is more searching, and challenging, each person you ask the question to you will get a slightly different answer. This allows you to assess the persons knowledge and also begin a conversation if you so wish.

Hi
A closed question is a direct question which will only require a yes/no answer.
An open question usually starts with which, why, who, what, how etc. so the person answering the question will be able to say more/give more information etc. and therefore have a much brighter conversation. Open questions are used in interviews to allow the interviewee to speak and talk more!
Hope this helps, good luck with the coursework!!!

A closed question is a yes no question basically whereas a open question allows for the person answering it to talk about their feelings, views, opinions etc. If you are writing anything its normally best to go for a mix of the both

Closed questions there are a pre-defined limited range of responses to choose between ( can be more than yes/no)
Like: Do you watch TV? All the time - frequently-sometimes-rarely -never
Open question there is no pre-defined reponses each person will put what they like and will be different.
Closed questions easier to analyse in a questionnaire like:75% people repsonded frequently. Open questions tell you more details.

A closed question is one where there is only going to be a short answer. Example:
"Do you like Oranges?" the response is a yes or no.
An open question is one that leaves plenty of scope for longer, more complex answers. Example:
"What kind of fruit do you like?" Obviously the response is going to be more complex then yes or no.

From my understanding, a closed question is simply one that allows a very short, answer, (ie: Yes or No). Like, "Did you eat today?"
An open question allows the person to respond with a detailed response and allows the asker more information. Like "What did you have to eat today?"

A closed question usually has only one correct response and can be answered in a single word or short phrase, such as" How old are you?"
An open question takes much more explanation and may have several possible answers.

A closed question is one where only specific answers can be given such as "what is your name" ie)only oneor two word answers can possibly be given to it. An open question is one such as "What do you do in your spare time" ie) one which prompts more response and does not have a specific short answer. Hope thisd helps.

A closed question only has a yes or no answer. An open question requires more than just that in answer.
For example, a closed question : Are you a student? (either yes or no)
An open question: What is your profession? (lots of answers)
