I need some major help! I just bought 3 new goldfish on Friday and they are in a tiny bowl. = ( I bought an aquarium yesterday and put the chemical stuff in it. The boy at the pet store told me that I couldn't put the fish in for a whole day. I want to put in all 3. Can I do that today or not? Please someone help me. They look so lonely in there!!!

did you put the right amount of chemicals in? if you are unsure, i would error on the side of caution and wait for the full 24 hours.

personally, i've put my goldfish right away in their new homes....but i think you should wait---just to be safe.

One thing you need to keep an eye on when you buy a new tank is the ammonia levels. New tanks tend to have high ammonia levels when they are first set up, which is why the pet store kid told you to give it a day or two before you put the fish in. What kind of drops did he give you for the water? There are some drops that will only take out the chlorine, but others will neutralize the ammonia as well. It will say on the label. If these are the kinds of drops you purchased and added to the tank yesterday, you can feel free to put your goldfish into the new tank. Goldfish are pretty hearty fish, so they should be fine. If you were starting a new tank with something like a Neon Tetra or an Angelfish, you would have to be more careful. But goldfish should be fine in their new tank. Good luck.

You should wait the full 24 hours before putting the goldfish into the tank.

I used to work at a pet store and i am tired of hearing about people that just bought tanks and already have fish before the tank is even set up. No reputable pet store would sell fish to a customer that is buying the tank that day...and they most certainly would not tell you to keep the fish in a goldfish bowl until your tank was ready. Gold fish bowls are just death traps for all fish except bettas(which have lungs so they can breathe air from the surface). There is little to no oxygen exchange in one of those bowls because of the surface area to volume ratio of the water.

Please do not put any more of your fish in the bowls and get the golfish into the new tank as soon as possible.

The reason why the pet store guy told you to wait a full day is most likely to make sure the chlorine in the water evaporates. I suggest when you put the new water in the aquarium, make sure you have a bubbler and put very hot water. If you have a thermometer, wait for the temp to cool down to about 75 Degrees. When it does, you can put your fish in. The ideal temp for a goldfish is between 68-72 degrees. Make sure you avoid putting any other type of fish in the tank as goldfish release too much ammonia causing other fish to get sick. Goldfish should only stick with other goldfish.

Hope I helped!

actually no u shouldnt...its for theyre own good also i hope you dont have a thermostat in the aquarium as gold fish are cold blooded fish and do not like the warmth of a thermostat, although a thermometer is still required in order to check the temperature every once in a while. The reason you have to wait to put the fish in is because the water has to get filtered through the filter and once the fish are in there the nitrogen cycle will only have just begun, i hope this aqurium is atleast a 10 gallon,,GOOD LUCK!

Try putting one fish at a time in whild the fishy in the large tank is swimming around, put the other fishes in teh smal bowl right next to the tank!
The fishys can now get used to the tank inside and out
it helps alot when i did it with my fish!
good luck
( ps) i would wait until a coupel of days after you got the fish just to help them~

Well, if the guy said that you had to wait a day. Then wait a day. I don't think the fishies will die of boredom just because they're stuck in a little bowl for another night.
