What is the theme of the birds? (the 1960-something movie directed by alfred hitchcock)

It's about birds gone crazy. They attack and try to kill humans. I believe it was Hitchcocks way of warning us about the devastation the environment is taking from all the pollutants in the air and what could happen. It was a classic Hitchcock movie. It made you think.
