Goldfish simply like to eat live plants. It's natural for them.
Even if you regularly eat breakfast lunch and dinner, would you still be able to walk by plates of cookies or chips placed around your house every day without eating any?

he will continue to eat the plants even if you over feed him with fish flakes or whatever you feed him. trust me, it's like with horses:you can give them too much alfalfa and/or hay but they will still eat grass. plants are natural food that is simply there for snaking on for fish, just as grass is simply a snack for horses. or it can also be where it looks like they're eating it but they're just taking bites and spiting it on the bottom. it's a snack and entertainment. i mean really...if you were a fish, what do you do all day?
