I know family is important, but at the same rate, 2 hours isn't that far. I've know more (including myself at one time) to make 2 hours a daily commute.

Anyway, I would give the job & locale a try. I only say this because I've recently moved from my hometown and I do often miss everything I knew around me. I do have to admit that I am much more appreciative that I feel like I am a much more productive person in my life though.

At age 53, you probably want to start looking for the place perhaps you may retire depending on the type of person you are. I'd give the current situation another 5 or 6 months, if it's still the worst time ever, reconsider your situation and look to take steps to plant yourself somewhere where you'll be happier.

Like I said, two hours isn't that far away, so consider your options.

You need to work and you have a good job, keep it! You live 2 hours away from your family, at least it is economical for you to go visit, so that is a plus. You are having a hard time with city life, well, this could have something to do with your "horrible" relationship. I suggest you get out of that relationship as soon as possible then start concentrating on the positive things that are happening to you. City living isn't for everyone, but if you can't adapt to living there, could you find a place to live that' maybe in between your home town and your work. I would caution you not to dwell on the negative things that upset you because eventually you'll bring it to work, and a negative employee is like a bad apple that will spoil the whole bunch and negatively affect production. There was actually a spot on TV last night where they were talking about the effects of a negative personality on staff, the bottom line was they were destructive to the company and should be disposed of.
