Well, the continental U.S. has four time zones, and Hawaii and Alaska are in yet another.
The neat thing with times and dates, when I fly from New Zealand to California, I get there an hour before I leave.

Eastern Zone 5 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time
Central Zone 6 Hours
Mountain Zone 7 Hours
Pacific Zone 8 Hours
Alaska Zone 9 Hours
Hawaii Zone 10 Hours
Always beware in your calculations though, to account for
* Daylight Savings Time
* British Summer Time, which often does not change on the same day as Daylight Time begins or ends!

It varies for as America is such a huge country it has several time zones. The sun rises in the East and works its way over us to America and then around the world and back to the East. It takes about five hours from us to New York so that is the time difference - New York is about five hours behind our time.

Even assuming that by America you mean the USA, you have to be more specific. The USA stretches over several time zones.
As David Frost said when Concorde came into service, 'Breakfast in London, Lunch in New York, Dinner in Los Angeles, Luggage in Caracas (Venezuela).'

It depends on where in the USA you want. There are 4 main time zones, Eastern at 5 hours behind, Central at 6 Hours behind, Mountain at 7 hours behind and Pacific which includes Alaska at 8 hours behind. You've also got Hawaii which is 10 hours behind the UK.

depends on which time zone in America. East Coast is 5 hours earlier,Central time is 6 hours, Mountain time is 7 hours and on the West Coast, Pacific time is 8 hours earlier.

5 hrs to the east coast (eastern time). It goes up or down an hour in the spring/fall since we don't do daylight savings time at the same time.
