Unless the person put in the best at the time playing the finals in 1983 we would have not won the coveted World Cup1983.You canot compare now the present team with the 1983 team.At that time we had will and ability to win, only the circumstances forced.Alan Donald and Lance clusiner gave away the cup to Australia in 1999.And Gangully after winning the toss forced the Australian to bat ,and failed to command the batting and gave away the cup to Australia .It all happens to every team. Please avoid comparisson.

Yes of course
if you look at stats of players, the present team is better.
That team had big stars like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar
Actually, Gavaskar was in a poor form in that WC
The 1983 team were underdogs,while today's team has a
bright chance. In fact all Test playing teams have equal chance, this time
This team has experienced stars like Tendulkar,Ganguly,Dravid,Kumbl...
And talented younger players like Dhoni,Yuvraj,Sehwag,Harbhajan,...
Sehwag,Yuvraj,Ganguly,Sachin are reasonable part time bowlers
Pathan and Agarkar are the bowling all rounders
Has new finds like Karthik,Sreesanth,Uthappa and Munaf also, to some extent
the 1983 team had better all rounders (or utility players),who
mostly were swing bowlers or medium pacers(military medium)
And swing bowlers always work in England
Also, today, not just India, but many teams like Sri Lanka,South Africa, West Indies , Australia,Pakistan have many experienced star players
Of course ,it doesn't matter whether you have big stars as
long as you win all the matches needed to lift the Cup
So,this team will be confident going into the WC,while
the 1983 team's confidence grew after winning the WC
Overall, today's team is better than than the 1983 team

No way! that bunch of cricketers took pride in playing for the country and their records spoke more about runs scored or wickets taken. Even the result speak for their commitment. Apart from World cup, Asia cup, WCC all came during that golden run.
The current breed's better if success is measured in terms of Ad-seconds they appear on TV (because their presence at the crease seem to be lesser than the time they appear during the adverts). Based on the commitment and in turn the ability - Kapil's Devils beat this team hands down.

I think in terms of specialist Fast bowlers this Team has betetr options than Kapil Dev's 83 Team . We have Zaheer Khan , Ajit Agarkar,Munaf Patel,SreeSanth and Irfan ( out of form , but can bounce back) . Where Kapil's Team scored was in terms of Allrounders or bits-and-pieces players like Roger Binny,Mohinder Amarnath,Madan Lal and Kapil himself. And then Ravi Shastri used to bat at No. 10 !! . In terms of batsman ; though this Team seems to have an edge.

On the cards it looks a far better team than the one that won the world cup for India. But if you truly and honestly compare it with that team of 1983 you will come to know that they were far better than the present team and what made them better was their hunger for victory and their thirst for bringing laurels for India. Today's cricket is totally commercialized players are more busy in commercials than the cricket game and game of cricket has just become a mean of business for most of the players. I am sorry if I hurt someone's feelings but if you think seriously you will come up with same conclusion.

No,it is not better then Kapil Dev's team. They had 6 to 7 all rounders in their team. We have only one (irfan pathan) who is not in good form.

Though the present team is lacking in genuine all-rounders when compare to Kapil's Devils, the present team is good one and we wish them all.

yes,our present day team includes many skilled and tactical batsmen, our present day team includes both experienced as well as young talents which makes us hot favourites of this world cup,our team 1983 is good but when compared with our present day team they lack many things our present day team owns.
