Most important is concentration---filtering out everything that is distracting in class, during your study time, and during the exam. But you must start the year, and the course (or courses) with a lot of enthusiasm and positive thinking. Latch on to what the teacher is doing or saying INTENSELY. Use your imagination to get excited about the subject---love the subject, whatever it is.
When you review for the exam, visualize the period/subject/text covered by the exam as a whole, and use your review and study time to equally cover everything in sequence. Be sure before you start studying for the exam that you know what it's going to cover---ask the teacher and check on this.

Presuming that you have prepared your subjects well, i like to answer your question.

Your approach to writing the answers based on 1. Time management - Do not waste more time in answering certain questions alone

2. Presentation of the answers - Answer to the point and do not beat around the bush with unwanted answers . "Underline the important words in your answer". For this your earlier preparation will help you since you have a grasp of the topic. For this use good mixture of Sketch pens to distinguish.
Along with theory points , add mathematical expressions as part of your answer. Or else the scientists or economists who have done well on those subjects .

This will add much flavour to your answer.

Do not forget to mention the reference for your answers like author or book from which you have checked. (Try to learn some good author names and books to help you ).
This will be very much helpful since the person correcting will come to understand that you have honestly referred and boost up your answer.

See earlier or past questions to understand the flow. This will help you to mentally prepare for answering.

All the best. Score more marks !!!!

a little bit of studying everyday, even if it is just looking at the notes from that day. on exam day, calming myself down and taking a deep breath. always answer as much as i can since partial credit is better than nothing. skip problems i don't know and come back at the end.

The key is to start preparation early. This way, there is no stress. You will definitely finish your portion. Also, it does not put you onto a 'only-study' routine. You can afford to enjoy as well as study. You must also not listen to what your friends are studying, as it builds tension.
