I'm sort of getting tired of the bland winter scenery in which I can't even find my car. When's the lush, colourful, more detailed imagery from today?

They update all the time. BUT, in some areas the pictures are still several years old That's an awful lot of data.

If they wouldn't waste time photographing the oceans...

no idea, and i don't think google have made any statements about it either, but i may be wrong.
it is very expensive to update all the imagery (hundreds of thousands of plates/images) and the quality is not consistent worldwide, ie America has clear satellite imagery in most cities at a range of different zoom levels but most parts of africa are poor....plus images are only a moment in time - it's daytime all around the world in google earth!

Are they starting to update now? The last time I was on there, the pictures were like 8 years old, I knew this because a relatives house hadn't been built yet !!! That is why I stopped checking it out.

I think its still snowing in america but i think google updates by 1-2 months

They update on regular basis (they specifically don't tell)
