They are use to being like someone else. They don't have an identity of their own. Be yourself! Always be a leader not a follower. Be a trendsetter. Of course you will stand out like a sore thumb. So what! Go against the flow of what EVERYONE is doing and do your thing!

If you want to look at it in a positive light, it could mean they're thinking: "Linda is doing really well and she's much stupider than ........, so ........ should be doing even better than her"
Thats the way I like to think of it! (Purely because I have had that sort of thing all my life...my personal favourite is "She doesn't live up to her full potential"...who does?)

people who tell you this don't look at you as individual and unique.
You shouldn't listen to them, just think about how you are lucky not to be like them.
Learn how to be happy with yourself.
Buy a book about self-esteem, it can point you in the right direction.
Wish you all the best

Yes i totally get you! mainly parents say that because they want an ideal child and if there is a friend of yours that parents think of as a perfect son/daughter to have then they will always say why cant you be more like her/him.

Perhaps you're not portraying confidence in being yourself. Try to relax more and let such commetns wash over you.

People probably have your interests at heart, but we should be true to ourselves - however eccentric that makes us. Good luck in being yourself.
