No matter how scared you are, this is something you absolutely need to bring to the police. Take pictures, document what happened on paper while its still fresh in your mind, and find yourself a new job. Quit that one NOW the amount of money you may lose from the down time is way less important than your well-being. Bring all this information to the police ASAP. The longer you wait, the worse. Make sure you also have a restraining order against him, this will make it illegal for him to come within a certain distance of you.
PS:
Bringing him to the police is not only important for your personal justice, but to protect others who are too afraid. If you are aware of any co-workers he may have done the same to, get them to come forward as well (just make sure you get in contact with them in a way that doesn't involve you getting near your ex-boss).

Take a picture of your bruises immediately while they are still fresh. Go to the police and report him for assault. Then call the media and tell them your story.

Don't be scared of him that's what he wants. Go to the police and have him charged with assault, then find a lawyer and sue him for everything he's got. You will have him working for you.
