the News & Observer posed this question on the cover of the sports section and it got me thinking...who do you think should win?

really, it's kind of hard to argue against Dudley. he's leading the league in both PPG and RPG (19.5 & 8.5). and not only is he a beast down low, he's shooting 47.8% from 3 :eek

i think Dudley is a near lock and Wright is a lock for ROY

in response to the above answer, dowdell does not have the numbers to be POY and neither does anyone from duke, although if someone did they would have a shot on the strength of playing for duke...i think it's dudley, he is a warrior who plays a ton of minutes and leads the ACC in scoring and rebounding, so it's just too hard to keep the award from him...if you're looking for someone who leads his team to wins, what about tyler hansbrough? he's been consistent all season and is the driving force behind this unc team...as for ROY, it's not even close, wright has been phenomenal for the tar heels

I like the News and Observer's method, it took all the positive things a player does, subtracted away the negative things (turnovers, fouls, missed shots, etc.) and divided in to get a player efficiency rating.

Tyler Hansbrough netted the highest officiency rating between Dudley, Thornton, and himself. He also had the highest in the ACC.

Wright had the highest efficiency rating by far above Tywon Lawson and Javaris Crittenton.

I personally think Dudley killed his chances when he botched those 3 straight free throws against UNC. A big time clutch player would've made those.

Also, everyone acts like Dudley "carries his team." Sean Marshall and Tyrese Rice are just as good as any other 2nd and 3rd option in the league. Beyond those 3, their team is pretty pathetic though.

Can't agree with Dudley, a true player of the year would have taken his team to a win over one of those three straight bnig time opponents they lost to, Va Tech, Duke and Carolina. Those were huge games for the Eagles and he just didn't get it done. I'm leaning towards Dowdell from Va Tech. But, with the politics of the game, it'll go to some Duke player to make up for their record and team this year. As for ROY... no doubt about it... he could be argued for player of the year as well.
