My congratulations, you are either very lucky or you have done your research, the first week of April has the best rates up until Memorial Day.
The MGM wins on all counts up until you you compare a suite to a nice room. The Grand tower rooms at MGM are nice rooms, but, they are not a suite. The problem I have with NY NY is that the rooms are a little on the small side, and what should be the best location rooms, the ones on the East side(facing the strip) have a noise problem from the roller coaster(Manhattan Express)
The MGM has many more dining options, and the Casino is wide open and huge. The MGM also has better video poker at the quarter level, if you play dollars then it's a toss up. MGM has far more tables & slots.
Not to throw your plans out the window, but have you thought of Luxor, Mandalay Bay or LV Hilton. Each has some remarkable low rates from April 1st - 5th & even the weekend is lower than normal.
LV Hilton>ROH Rooms are on par with MGM Grand Tower rooms> Will upgrade to Premium rooms for as little as $25>The video poker at the LV Hilton is better than any strip casino>The Sport Book at the LVH is by far the nicest. If you're looking for a place to call home in the future with comp rooms and enjoy 4 star hotels, the two best in LV are the LV Hilton & Golden Nugget. Our play averages 5-6K per day and we receive up to an offer of 4 free nights Sun/Thur & sometimes free 3 night weekends. I'm sure the offer jumps up at a 10K level. You would have to double that play level to even come close to those offers from a 4 star strip hotel. The LVH has wonderful restaurants and an excellent buffet. The only negative is, it's not on the strip. The up side is, the Monorail has a station that's practically inside the LV Hilton's casino, for strip travel.Rate for April 1st-5th are $65.95 the weekend is $125...>ask for a room that faces south-west for a great view<
Luxor>Just on a hotel+casino+room comparison to NY NY & MGM the Luxor falls in between the two, with MGM coming out on top. For interesting and cool the Luxor wins hands down. How often do you get to stay in the worlds largest pyramid, and they take the pyramid theme to the max. I like the Pyramid rooms over the new tower rooms even though the new tower rooms are a little larger. The Spa rooms in the Pyramid have the spa built up into the corner of the room, awesome view. Rate for April 1st-5th are $79 >rates are double for a spa suite
Mandalay Bay>has the greatest pool area in LV>huge casino>the negative is, their beds are not very comfortable(IMHO). Rates for April 1st-5th $99.95
this is the best site for up to date LV info - you can use it to link to all LV hotel web sites.

Personally, Mandalay Bay is the best. But MGM is better that New York, New York in my opinion. There is more to do and see at the MGM and the monorail runs behind MGM's side of the street. If you stay at the MGM the problem my friend had was the room was so far away from the elevator. If you don't mind that than that isn't a problem but if you do, ask for a room close to the elevator. You are doing a lot of walking as it is.

MGM Grand is much larger than New York New York. The MGM Grand might be a better bet because it is so large it might be less crowded. They are scross the street from one another though.

Stayed at MGM last year in the Grand Tower it was good. The place was clean and had no complaints. Monorail has a stop inside MGM. Ate at Emerils inside MGM very good food. Never stayed at NY-NY but did gamble there so I cant say what it is like.

Well they are right across the street from each other and there is a bridge between them across the Strip so no real big difference...but I prefer New York, New York because it is a manageable size, MGM is sooo large I found it too impersonal....It wears you out just walking around the casino area...

The slots in the Grand are great and convienently located. Plus if you end up wandering around looking for an exit, anyone will put you in a pretty good location to continue, getting lost......er I mean exploring. The Grands rooms are a great overall value at any price, plus dining and shopping I feel are a lot more reasonable in price.

This is true.....My wife and I just got back from Vegas last Saturday. We made a stop our first day at the MGM for lunch. BIG MISTAKE. My wife got severe food poisoning and ended up in the hospital for the whole week. I would avoid that place like the plague.

Over all, NY Ny is ok. Corwded floors. Too many machines in too small of an area. rooms are nice.
MGM is HUGE, But same nice rooms and the casino floor is not so crowded. Room to move. Its just HUGE.
That corner, with 4 resorts on it, has 12,000 hotel rooms. And is one of the busiest corners in the world
