2 questions on hamsters?

question 1: im getting a hamster but wat should i call it?

idealy i want a girl but i mite get a boy one so i need names 4 boys, girls and both.

here is a list i thought of. could u guys plz pick out of the list, tell me if its 4 a boy or girl (or both) and give me ur own names

I was also thinking of calling these names with a Miss, Mrs, or Mr at the beggining (example, Mr. Cookie, Mrs. Nibbles ect.) wat do u think? I'm getting it in March

Question 2: Do hamsters hybernate cos my mum said I cant get one in Feb cos they would b hibernating. was she right?

this will b my 2nd hammy as my old hammy, Coco, ran away and then died.

they're great names and I love the fact that you will call them Mr. or Mrs. Good choice. My own hamsters were called Roly-Poly, Squiffy, Branston, Chutney, and there was also a Marlon Brando because he had fat cheeks and looked like the film star with the same name.
Hamsters don't hibernate when they are kept indoors. They are nocturnal however, which means that they tend to sleep during the day and get active in the evening, and even run about in their cage during the night.
If this is your first hamster, get a good book from the library about the care of the hamster. The more you handle them and lift them up, the tamer they will be and the more you will enjoy them. Hamsters like all sorts of treats in their cage - the cardboard inner of a toilet roll, a running wheel. Also, they need a private area to use as a toilet so get an empty jam jar, put in two teaspoons of water and place it in the cage, on its side, so the hamster can enter. The hamster will feel the cool water on its bottom and it will know this is the place to have a tiddle. Every day you can just lift out the glass jar and rinse it out and place it back in, which will keep the cage clean.

I've had quite a few hamsters over the years including cherry, saffy, barney, edward, molly and many more. I found that the males have had better tempraments. Hamsters don't normally hibernate, but occasionally they do which is a bad thing. They used to hibernate in the wild but if they do this in captivity they can become too cold and die, but if you warm them up and feed them some warm water with sugar then they will start to wake up again. Hamsters are nocturnal though which means they sleep most of the day and wake up in the evenings, so it would probably be a good idea if you don't keep him/her in your bedroom because you'll be kept awake all night! Pippy (cos their little eyes look like apple pips - i was about 11 i would like to add)

Loopy (cos she was! she was a monkey climibing upside down all the time etc!)

Whiskey (Cos her fluff was a gingery whiskey colour and its also my favourite drink!)

Jilly Cooper (cos she is my favourite author ever!)

any my hamster now is called Lucifer because he is an albino and has red eyes so he looks like the devil, hence lucifer! he isnt evil tho!

I do like the name peanut as well tho - if you are still trying to think of names, maybe use some of ure favourite things to help you! my next hamster will be another boy and im going to call him Horatio after the guy in CSI Miami cos its my fav programme and Horatio is a legend in it!

On the hibernating thing, you can buy hamsters at any time of year, they wont be hibernating, just sleeping in the day!

dont make the miss, mr and all those other ones at the beggining cause i think its kinda weird and hamsters dont hibernate they just sleep if im wrong go to the pet store and ask

Hamsters don't usually hibernate when they are young, but if they are old and you have a cold house, they might. This happened to me, and it was very scary because I went to get my hamster out of his cage (Chester, male) and he wasn't moving, was freezing cold and very limp. I thought he was long dead. However, when I lifted him out of his cage, he bit me real hard and I almost cried with relief!

If your hamster does hibernate, warm him/her up and they will be fine.

As for a boy or a girl, girls are better if you want a more active and playful friend and males are better if you want a more lazy, cuddly pet. It's up to you.

I have had two hamsters in the past, both males, one called Chester, one called Sunny.

I also have three guinea pigs called Minou (means sweetie pie in French, the female equivalent is Minette), Mojo and Fred (my younger sister named Fred.) I also think that super names for any pets are Rory, Milo, Finnigan, Arnie, Figgy and Ziggy.

anyways as for the second hamster question, to be honest yes they will hibernate if they get cold enough but you can go out and buy one any day of the year just be prepared to take the proper procautions to keep it warm...

It sounds to me as if your Mom doesn't want you to have a hamster, but since when does anyone listen to there mothers ;)

I've had many hamsters throughout the years, and some names have included Jellybean, Ashley (she was gray like ashes), Cinnamon, Lily the Barbarian, Booradley, twins Bob and Marley, Miss Penny Lane, and Penelope. I don't usually get male pets, so I don't have names for them to share. Even Bob and Marley were girls, heh. I like names that are in reference to favorite movies, books, music, etc. Good luck, and have fun.

i've had 5 hamsters
1ste one is cold nibbels or knabbel in dutch
2th stripe caus she was all black and had a long white stripe on her tommy
3th and4th popcorn and pluis(boy) or fluffy in english
5th mieke

the names your list has go for both boys and girls but if you get mr or miss or mrs you should try to call it first and see of it sounds good
