Why does society make it hard to make friends? I suspect the reason why I don't make friends well is because the time allocation of college and the fact that I stayed home for extra time for the past 5 years. I played too much game that I lost communication to the real world. I lost ways on how to interact with the real world. Back in grade school, I remember I am good at making friends. In high school, I barely made one good friend. now in college, I cannot even make friends. in grade school, you used to have at least 8 AM - 2:40 PM monday through friday. and that is with the same people all day. In hs school, you can only get to meet the same people at least 1 class period (75 min) for 5 days and you had time to talk to new people. In college, you can meet new people but so rare to make friends. you can only see them for at least 2 class period only per week (3 hr). and you don't even have a chance to talk. the teachers lectures all class and the student leaves.

Ask somebody you would like to know better if he or she would like to study together for an upcoming test, presentation, etc. in a particular class. You need a common reason for establishing the friendship. Then if he or she agrees, set a time and a place. If you get along well, you can set up more study dates or times to get together outside of class to do things together. This person may also introduce you to more friends and you will establish a network.

If you get together and it doesn't go well, don't give up. Keep trying! Eventually you WILL make new friends.

But you have to put a consistent effort into it ... you can' expect others to always make the effort because just like you, they are busy too. Therefore, if making friends is a priority then YOU must afford the effort.

Don't blame this on society.

Do you ask the student next to you if you can compare notes on the class? Go to the student union or the nearest Starbucks? The conversation about the class can move on to conversation about other things.

To make a friend you have to be one. You can't sit back and wait for someone else to make a move. A person who would like to be your friend will meet you half way.

you can go to the library after class or hang out on campus, join a club...i agree when you get older it is harder but there are ways ..i think it is harder to make friends becuase people are affraid of rejection, too busy to make an effort and anti-social.

i talk to people where ever i go, but thats me..an example for you i w\as at a bar shooting pool a few months ago, the guy who was playign against me was about 21 or 22 and he had an i-pod on listen to music while playing pool...this was a bar playign music and people talking, i heard a few others making comments...but to me this is where society is going

I know this doesn't seem fair. Once you get to college you pretty much have to befriend people outside classes.
