This may help solve math word problems in the future.
Some keywords can be replaced with math symbols:
add, plus, more means +
IE: Bob has 1 more than Joe
B=J+1
subtract, less, minus , from means -
IE: Brand A costs $5 Less than Brand B
A= B - 5
divided, divides, of, into, between, by , per = / or ratio
IE: The cost of lunch was $25 was split between 4 students.
Each paid = $25 / 4 = $6.25
times, for, by, product, = * , ratios
IE: John bought $55 worth of CD's with a 2 for one special discount, how many CD's did he buy if a CD cost $11?
CD= (55/11)*2 = 10
Granted this is not acomplete list of terms in a language with a quarter billion words and sometimes you need to figure out wheter a term implies a quotient or a product, addition or a product. The math is usually evident because language and math are both ways of expressing our thoughts and experiences. It gets easier with practice.
Question 1)
3.8 sq m = $22.23
1 sq m = $22.23 /3.8 = $x
one square meter for x dollars.
or
1=$x/sq m
x dollars per square meter
in the second case, 1 is a dimensionless unit
Question 2)
try to get the x all by itself on the left side of the equasion.
1) subtract 3.7 from both sides of the equasion.
2) divide both sides of the equasion by the factor of x, 5.2
3) you have x= a number, and that's your answer.
I hope this helps.

A1> $22.23 / 3.8 = $5.85 / meter
>> What do I need an equation for?
>>> Awwrite, 3.8x = 22.23
>>>>>>>>> x = 22.23 / 3.8
>>>>>>>>> x = 5.85
A2> 5.2x = 9.3 - 3.7
>> 5.2x = 5.6
>>> x = 5.6 / 5.2 = 1.077

Q1. If it costs $22.23 for 3.8 items...how much for one item? Divide $22.23 by 3.8 to get $5.85, that's how much it costs for one item.
The equation would be 22.23=3.8x, where x would be the number of square meters.
Q2. 5.2x+3.7=9.3
Subtract 3.7 from both sides,
5.2x+3.7-3.7=9.3-3.7
Then you get,
5.2x=5.6
Now, divide both sides by 5.2
5.2x / 5.2 = 5.6 / 5.2
You get,
x=1.07692

omg just do your own stupid hw...it's not that hard
if "john" buys 3.8 for 22.23, then you just divide 22.23 by 3.8
and q2...didn't your teacher go over this??? in class?? maybe you were staring out the window?

#1) 3.8x=$22.23
=>x=$22.23/3.8
=$ 5.85
Hence,the cost of floor covering is $ 5.85 /m^2
#2) 5.2x+3.7=9.3
=> 5.2x+3.7-3.7=9.3-3.7
=>5.2x=5.6
x=5.6/5.2
=1.077
