I have an Athlon XP 2000+ (1.68ghz) which I think is running at 133mhz, my current RAM is 512mb DDR (two 256MB stacks at PC2100)

If I put two 1GB stacks of PC3200 DDR RAM into my computer, will they work ok or not?

Thanks.

My motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X-something or other. I got the PC in 2003. There's a VIA chip that says VT8235, if its any help.

I'm pretty sure my motherboard suppoerts up to 2GB of RAM, its just the PC3200 I'm not sure about, although a person on an AMD specific forum said it would work. Just wanted your opinions, thanks again.

Your computer is not 133 mhz front side bus. Any computer made in the last 4 or 5 years has ddr. In fact, if it were 133mhz, you would not be able to even put it in the slot. The form factors and pins are different. All the PC rating means is what speed the ram is rated to. If your ddr fsb is 266 mhz, putting in ram that is rated to 400 mhz (PC3200 DDR) Is not going to make it go to 400mhz. You will just have memory that is not running as fast as it could be which is fine.

If your memory is ddr2 that you got, it will not fit in the slot either. So if it fits in there, you are fine. Higher rated memory does not make the fsb jump. You can only do that in the bios.

Your pc has ddr266 so putting in ddr 400 is fine.

NO! it variety of feels the answerers are puzzled between RAM (Random get right of entry to memory) and their computers not basic Drives. considering that RAM in basic terms shops non everlasting techniques on the subject of computers operations, it is almost impossible to contaminate yet another computers by skill of making use of RAM. except there is the thank you to not unplug a RAM mutually as simutaneously plugging it into yet another pc. As a RAM contents would be lost whilst the pc is powered off. besides the fact that as a final warning however, considering which you're plugging an previous RAM right into a sparkling computing device, there is a superb danger it is going to no in good shape, it is because of the fact new RAM gets stepped forward each and all of the time (EDO > SDRAM > DDR RAM > DDR2 RAM ) and in case you have an older RAM, it is going to no in good shape on a extra moderen motherboard because of the fact it makes use of a extra moderen sort of RAM.

That board does support PC3200, but you will need to double-check with ASUS the specific brands and part number modules supported at this speed, as you don't want to buy something that you have to send back.

Kingston have tested modules at PC2100 and PC2700, which you would be safe buying. Either part number KVR266X64C25/1G or KVR333X64C25/1G will work.

your ram is running at 133 mhz no it wont blow up your computer although if you put 400 mhz ram in it will only run as fast as the mother board will let it which is probably 133mhz

Don't think it will work, don't think it will blow it up, just think you will get a load of memory error beeps at boot.

Think it will depend on your mb as to what it supports, post your mobo specs and may be able to help more
