An ActiveX control is a program that your web browser can start up when a web page has something in it that uses that ActiveX control. Rather than getting rid of it, you can just choose not to download and run it. Or stop visiting the web page that uses it.

Some ActiveX controls can be bad. People can make them do bad things to your computer. It's probably best if you don't use them at all until you have a deep understanding of how your computer can get screwed up with them. Even a good bebo friend of yours could unknowingly be using a nasty ActiveX control.

ActiveX controls can do great things, but are too frequently used to do nasty things.

If you already chose to use an ActiveX control, it's hard to tell if it has done anything bad to your computer. The best you can do is run a trusted virus protection / spyware / adware / malware removal application and hope that it catches anything bad and fixes it.

Remember that firewalls and virus protection softwares aren't perfect. You still have to be careful what you do.

ActiveX is a Microsoft system of plug ins for Internet Explorer and other MS programs. Allows internet websites to offer more complex content like multimedia. However, it is possible to create malicious ActiveX controls to spread viruses and trojans. Keep your virus scanner and antispyware up to date, and you might try an alternative browser like Mozilla's Firefox which does not utilize ActiveX.

I totally agree with jbean444's answer.

Go into your Internet Explorer > Extras > Safety > find
and de-activate Active X.

Best of all install another browser as the recommended Firefox from the link jbean444 gave you or another one
without Active X is OPERA

I used to have that problem. That little box would pop up and when I clicked okay my computer would freeze. I don't know what happened but now when I click on it, it doesn't do anything and all is well. Try going to activex.com that might help you.
