i have a dell with 1.25gb ram and stock video card

Unless you bought one of those dell xps machines, your card is probably too weak. If the screen look choppy and hangs up some times, it is your graphics card. try running or turning in circles. If it is not smooth it is your card. Any modern card that is made by ati or nvidia should be able to run halo. However if your play is smooth, and on occasion in multiplayer you get stuck, it is probably your connection.

If you're playing on the net its very possible the lag is in the internet connection. Stock video cards are not usually very good, you could try toying with the settings and updating drivers. A better video card couldn't hurt, if the problem is really intermittent it could be lagging while it is buffering to your card that doesn't have enough RAM. Check the bios settings a lot of times onboard cards share system RAM, and you could maybe allocate more for it.. say.. from 64 to 128 or even 256!
