An expectant mother, being pregnant, is carrying another life besides her own and is responsible for that life. Refusing medical care would be refusing care for the unborn child as well. A guardian can only refuse care for someone they are the legal guadian of. If it is a minor, the authority can be taken away by a court if it is determined that the child needs medical care.
