The survivors have to wear sunglasses and cannot be in the sun, but they are not vampires (from what I can remember). Some guy happens upon the town and discovers these people and the "leader " is this white guy who is in a radio station and talks through the PA system. Some little girls get trapped in a shopping mall. Very weird, but cool. Thanks!!

"Night Of The Comet"
The comet goes by and turns everyone into calcium dust, unless they were surrounded by metal. One guy was asleep in his truck, the cheerleader girl was sleeping in the shed because she "had it out with her mom once and for all again".... the her older sister was with her boyfriend in the projection room of a theatre (which was lined with steel for fire code reasons). The zombified people somehow were the ones who didnt get a full dose.
Now the real question is... Why do I know this useless bit of information????

It was called "The night of the comet". Very cool movie!
The cute guy was Hecter and the sisters were Sam and Regina.

Yep - I remember it. I believe it was from a nuclear war. There were zombies from the radiation. I forget the name. :(
