The Geneva Conventions are a set of rules for war that are designed to limit casualties and torture. It is a kind of gentlemens' agreement on how to treat uniformed and armed fighters, in combat and as prisoners. The Hague is the seat of the International court that rules on war crimes and violations of international law. The two sometimes merge as a lot of international law is set out by the Geneva Conventions, but there are differences as well. Not all international law is concerned with the conduct of armed conflict.
