I have a doctors appointment tomorrow afternoone, I am only asking now to get some opinions because I've heard a lot of doctors brushed preeclampsia off when women have actually had it. I am 36 weeks tomorrow, the past 1-2 weeks I've had really bad dizziness, headaches, can't catch my breath...almost like im hyperventilating to the point where I almost pass out. I even had to pull over on the interstate because I almost blacked out. I haven't checked my blood pressure, but at my last appointment the nurse said the top number was a little high. I always have a trace of protein in my urine at my visits, but Ive been told a trace is normal. I am not swollen or anything. Yesterday the pains that are usually in my lower abdomen were only in the upper abdomen, something I have never had. Also, for the past 4 weeks I've had a really uncomfortable pain on the right side of my mid-upper back, like right under my ribs. It doesnt get better with rest or movement. Does this sound like preeclampsia?

OMG...ok let me tell you a little story. When I was pregnant with my 1st son I had a very difficult pregnancy but the doctor never did anything or answered any of my concerns. When I was 26 wks I ended up going to the ER for heartburn of all things. Well thank god I did, I had severe pre-eclampsia. By the time they got me to a hospital in the city I was Eclamptic and almost died and lost my child. I was so bad they told everyone to start making my funeral arrangement and the baby's. Thankfully I had an angel looking after me because my son is now a healthy 15 yr old. He is still very small for his age because he was only 2 lbs when he was born.
Then on my 2nd pregnancy I knew the signs and was having them. I told my doctor (a different doctor) and I was told that I could not have it until after my 20 wk mark. I disagreed completely and to their surprise (NOT MINE) I ended up having Severe preeclampsia once again. This time I didn't get eclamptic, which was great and my 2nd son was born at 32 wks and is healthy also.
So PLEASE, dont let anyone tell you how you "should" feel and be. You know your body better than anyone. If you don't get answers from your doctor, get a 2nd opinion, and a 3rd, and 4th, ect...until you feel comfortable.
I wish you the best and you will be in my prayers!

It would all depend om your bp. If you blood pressure is high then it very well could be preeclampsia, and yes some dr's don't take it very serious at times. With my first pregnancy I was 34 weeks when I went to dr and they ended up having to enduce my labor then bc my bp was too high. I had the symptoms the whole time and she never did anything about it and back then I didn't know anything about preeclampsia but now I have learned alot. With my last pregnancy I saw a new Dr and she was checking on it every other week and the last 3 months every week to make sure it was all under control. So back to your question, yes it is common for a SMALL amount of protein in your urine, but it shouldn't be that much. Next time you feel light headed and dizzy stop by a Fire Dept and have them check your bp. The pain you are having is just from the baby trying to get into position to come out. But always, be aware of your feet and hands to see if they are too swollen. Preelampsia can be very dangerous if not taken care of right. Be sure to bring up all your concerns tomorrow at your Dr appt. Good Luck w/ your baby.

I had preeclampsia with my first baby and was induced early. I had no pains (well, I did have a toothache the night I went to the ER). Just high blood pressure, swelling in my ankles and face, and protein in the urine. As soon as they checked my blood pressure, they put me in a wheelchair and took me straight to labor/delivery.

Take it easy and lay on your left side as often as possible. I was told to do this whenever I had dizzy spells. It supposedly helps lower your blood pressure.

Yes for gods sake go to the er. I went to my Dr. appointment and PASSED OUT IN THE ELEVATOR the Dr said i just walked to fast. sent me home, didn't have my daughter for another 2 weeks and i had it bad. I had seizes for 7 hours at the end of labor. It was HORRIBLE. I now have permanent kidney damage.

I am pregnant with my 3rd child SOOOO not planned, and Dr advised me to abort, I just cant, I'm 18 weeks . dont wait on the damn Dr. It can change your life forever i know first hand.

I was swollen, weezing when i would breethe, could lay down, legs hurt so bad they were so tight, face and hands too. Blood pressure was high and mine runs low. My daughter was not moving hardly at all.

It could be however, I had similar symptoms with no swelling and it was boarder line diabetes. I was on bed rest my last month and had a healthy baby girl. Good Luck!!!!
