Yes there is a red ipod 8GB nano, but it was part of some promotion, very hard to get hold of, they do a U2 ipod aswell, but the reason they only do the 8GB nano in black is they they found that the first type of nanos the black one sold better beause they look better (cooler) so apply make more money because people will buy he black nano more then the smaller white ones.

As much as Apple has managed to near-permanently link iPods to the color white (as evidenced by the glut of accesssories that are not available in any other color), black iPods are more popular.
Currently, there are only two colors for the Nano that are available in more than one capacity. The 2GB only comes in silver, but a 4GB silver model has also been introduced (I'm not sure when this happened, but it's listed in the Apple online store). The other one that you're thinking of is the (PRODUCT) RED model, which is available in both 4GB and 8GB, costs the same as the regular models of the same capacity, and helps fight AIDS, TB, and malaria in Africa (Apple gives $10 to the Global Fund for each unit sold). You can order them online from Apple, and you might be able to find them in a local Apple Store, but I have never seen the red models at regular retail.
