I rasied guppies years ago and never moved the females. If you have lots of plants, layered rocks, and other places for the fry to hide serveral will grow to maturity. In such conditions, only the fastest and strongest will survive, which will give you a healthy strain.

I had guppy fishes and i couldn't tell when they were about to give birth, however, just before she gave birth, alot of the other fishes that were in the tank used to kind of crowd around her and nudge her.If she is gigantic then i suggest you put her in another tank. I used to have a birthing tank which went into the main tank so you could keep an eye on how the guppy's doing and not lose the babies when they are born.
Good luck

hi hope this can help.....the first sign off giving birth i observe is when u can see the eye of the fry in the mother stomach very clear...and the female fish is swimming up and down in the front or side off aquarium away from other fish that is sure sign off give birth, if u had a planted tank they probably go in to the shade and stay still waiting for birth contraction so once give birth the fry can hide.usually i separated the female(virgin ones) after i put them with the male for 2 weeks once i notice they are pregnant and put some water plant in the tank for the fry to hide once give birth remove the mother fish quickly b4 she eat the young

maximum guppies' tail will turn black whilst that's pregnant. Your guppy is pregnat, yet will take an prolonged time to launch fry because of the fact its abdomen continues to be small, fry interior her abdomen are actually not fertilize yet. it is going to take a minimum of two extra weeks or maximum 3 weeks on your guppy to launch fry.

I'd say it is time. You don't have to use another tank. That will probably stress the fish too much. I'd pick up a breeder from the local pet shop and use it in the tank.
