-If you are using windows xp, you can use the system restore option in system tools to restore your computer to an earlier restore point, restore at the date when the speakers were working properly. That should solve the problem.
-If you are unable to restore them , then check if there is any sound on the pc
start > control panel > sound and audio devices
click on sounds tab
At the bottom choose a program event, and it will display a drop down menu under sounds. If you click on it many default sounds will be listed, choose one and click on the play button, you should hear a sound. if you do not listen any sound here then you have to reinstall the sound card drivers
-Click on control panel > System > hardware > device manager.
It will show you all the hardware. If the sound card's driver shows yellow question mark then it means it is not installed properly. Press on "+" sign to expand, right click on the driver that has a yellow question mark and select properties. Click on update driver and insert the driver CD in cd drive. This will re-install the sound card's driver
-click on start > run
type dxdiag

directX diagnostic tool opens
click on sound tab
note down the name of the device
-use everest free Home Edition to detect the sound card

First, check your speakers volume control, power supply and mute option. then check a few programs to see if you get any sound. then restart your computer. repeat steps 1 and 2. then reinstall the driver and repeat steps 3, 1 and 2. then turn off the pc. unplug pc from wall, destatic yourself then take out sound card, clean card and mother board, and reseat card on board, then repeat steps 3, 1 and 2. then repeat everything by putting card in different computer to see if it works. then repeat everything by putting different card in your computer to see if it works. then try different mother board in your computer to see if it works. then try entirely different computer. then try a completely diferent home. then go to a new country.
theme: first, check settings and options, then check software and programming, then check hardware and equipment, then the source of power and compatibility with alien technology. Progressively work your way up the financial ladder of problems. good luck.

it ought to in all probability be your PSU, it must be slowly death out and slowly giving much less WATTS to the aspects you prefer. Im incredibly effective its not that yet which would be a threat. If its not that which im effective its not it must be the sound card you have, I certainly have had undesirable studies with X-FI. (i presumed i replace into unlucky). yet mine wasnt a static sound. It replace into extra of a.... a ... ummm.... SCREEEEECH!!! Which have been given extremely annoying. OH, and it happened after 6 or so minutes. What a coincedence, did i spell that superb???

try turning off pc, remove sound card and re seat it checking for dust first. then if no joy,- reinstall the driver for the card. if still no luck, then try another sound card, if that works then your original card is most likely duff.
a cheap good card will only set you back about 15 quid anyway.
