Mat 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

The Catholic Church is the richest because, for the time being, Catholicism is the biggest religion in the world. They do good in the world with the money too, the catholic church has always had close links with St Vincent De Paul who give to the poor and needy. They give to Africa, too, during lent, a plate is usually passed round at every mass for the Black Babies as well as all of the missionary work that is done in some of the poorest parts of the world, they money has to come from somewhere to make this happen. I think the bad press the Catholic Church recieves is quite unjust and unfair, not ALL priests are kiddy fiddlers, and the apparent haters on here don't have a clue what they are talking about, or are they trying to be PC and trendy by dissing the Catholic Church because it's not PC to diss the Muslims? Would we gain your respect if we threatened to kill you?

It's been this way with the catholic church for all its existence. During Martin Luther time, they sold papers to their flock, telling them, their sins will all be forgiven from now on and used the money for the popes toys and games. Especially in those early days, popes were often elected because they had influence and money, not necessarily for their belief in Jesus Christ. It's really sad, because the world looks at that and judged Christendom. Not all catholics are this way and I don't know why the catholic church is so wealthy and why their churches show it as well. The buildings are elaborate, full of statues ang gleaming with gold. It's beautiful to look at coming from a human perspective, but is it really necessary? The bible asks us to be humble and not to mass up earthly treasures but treasures in Heaven.

They are the richest because they are the oldest and the largest denomination.
They spend their money on running the church. Just like the government spends it's money on running the country.
An organization as large as the Catholic church has a lot of expenses, priests and nuns, employees, buidings, charities, schools, etc. etc. That all takes money.

The Catholic Church is 2000 years old and has over a billion followers.
Most of their money is tied up in property (such as holy buildings), works of art and decorations.
A lot of the actual money they have to spend goes to building new churches, maintenance of buildings, and charitable organisations. The Catholic church is surprisingly generous (a lot more than I thought they were before I looked in to it).
The Catholic church makes money through donations and interest on funds it already has.

The Catholic Church is both a separate country and political force in my book. The money comes from thousands who think giving it-esp when they hardly have any often times-will get them forgiveness. They run the biz with the money-travel,upkeep,food,politics,donations to causes etc---

The Catholic Church has over a billion members.
That is a lot of money in the basket but every member belongs to a parish that needs financial support.
In the United States, all dioceses and parishes publish annual financial reports for all to see.
Here are links the the financial annual reports for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles: http://www.archdiocese.la/about/reports/index.php and http://www.the-tidings.com/2006/0113/financialreport/financialresults.htm
With love in Christ.

They having been telling a pack of lies to simple, uneducated folk for the past two millenia therefore it is no surprise that like any good conmen they have amassed a fortune.
What do they spend it on?
Knowing the reputation of catholic priests with little boys then probably they spend it on holidays to Thailand!
