An 1800 is a very good score for your first try. You could definitely do better if you tried again, except you might want to look into buying a test prep book or taking a test prep course. These can help immensely because you get a feel for the kinds of problems on the test. Practice tests help with pacing because sometimes you take way too much time on a problem and don't end up finishing. Make sure you keep reading a lot because that will introduce lots of new vocabulary for you that will help you on the SAT. According a website a counselor gave me, UC Berkeley has an average score of 2041 for the SAT and the average GPA is a 3.75.
There are many other great colleges in the US. If you really liked Berkeley then I would suggest some of the other UCs. Davis and Irvine don't require as high GPA and SAT scores like UCLA and Cal do. There are so many other colleges that you would have to narrow down some of the categories. There's also a book you can buy for that too.

Good Luck!!

I suggest that you get a practice SAT book and work hard on all of the sections. Second, you need to remember that non-native speakers of English typically do more poorly on the SATs, and especially on the verbal part, because of the contextual elements of the SAT. They are biased towards native speakers. Thirdly, a lot of colleges in the United States are looking to get foreign students (it looks good on a college's brochure if they can say that they have students from X number of different countries) so if you're foreign, that does actually help you anyway.

For the old SATs (just verbal and math) the average score was 1306), so I assume that with the extra 800 points that the average is around 2000.

I got a 13 on my ACT (I believe the top score was 25) and I graduated college. I don't know how much stock I put in those tests.

You can re-take the SATs but you should think carefully before you cancel scores since, once canceled, scores cannot be reinstated or reported to you or your designated colleges or universities. If you finished the test but are sure you did poorly, you can cancel the score

now you know where you need to study. take it again. they will count the higher score. take it one section at a time so you can really concentrate on that area. where a good college is depends on what you want to study. there are excellent colleges all over. the guidance office or local public library should have books on colleges.
