I always forget, until it comes around every year, that the Oscars and the Academy Awards are the same thing. So what's up with that? Who's Oscar?

It's rumored that one woman...an Academy member back in the forties, took one look at the statuette given and thought it's face reminded her of her Uncle Oscar. Any truth to that? Not sure, but it makes a great story.
I actually saw an Oscar about 25 years ago. They're taller and heavy then we think. I took one look at it's mansuline face and felt fairly certain it looked like my Aunt Titi. That's Titi pronounced tee-tee. Good thing I didn't see that award back in the 40's.
Othwerwise we'd be watching actors win a "Tee Tee"

The Oscars are the actual names for the awards. (Like the Emmys and the Tonys)
They are called academy awards because the Academy awards them. They academy is a huge group of people who have made contributions to the movie industry--so pretty much any actor/ actress, director--anyone connected to the industry is in the academy.
When people recieve oscars, they always thank the academy for the award.

Oscar is the name given the statue that the winners receive.

47 or 49 years back, when they first started this Academy Awards and begun to make some trophies which resemble a man. A female staff saw one of the trophy and exclaimed it resembles her Uncle Oscar, so they decided to name the trophy Oscar.
