We all know the winner will get the 10pts so why even bother saying it?

I don't. I just put up if I will only pick a random winner of the ten points, that way they don't waist time on a huge answer.

But you HAVE just mentioned it twice, haven't you? But yes, I do hate it, especially when it's "10 points for the first correct answer" - loads of people reply and the asker has to wait 4 hours to select best answer!

Because I know of a few questions that are about.....five months old, and they have not been resolved to date. I'm not touching it, since it gives us pleasure to see how long they will remain in existence unresolved and perpetually in the voting stage.

It's probably just a way to remind everybody to give your best answer. Plus, new people can learn that fast. But I agree, it is anoying, but you can get points for choosing a best answer on questions you ask (I believe it's 3). Best advice I can give is ignore it!

You mean when they tempt you with something like "best answer gets 10 pts"? I don't care, I have enough points. I think they just want more people to answer.

they probably do that to make the person think, 'wow if i awnser the question the best i will definitly get the 10 points' catch you eye more like?
