22/7 is just one approximation that can be useful because the numbers are easy.
You could say 3 is a first approximation (for very crude calculations) and 22/7 is a little better.
You could take the first n decimals, e.g. 3.142 and express as fraction 3142 / 1000 and simplify to 1571/500. The more decimals you take the better the accuracy.
But in the end pi can not be written down as am exact decimal, fraction, or even as an algebraic expression ( e.g. some formula involving root of 2 etc ). It is a "transcendental" number.

22/7 is not the exact value of pi. The real value of pi has been calculated and it has gone upto 1 lakh decimal places, yet it is non-terminating. 22/7 & 3.14 are just approximations to make calculations easier.

We use 22/7 in case pi needs to be plugged into an equation with fractions. It's not exact, but it's surprisingly close. At some point, it doesn't matter to what decimal place you use pi at anyway.

value of pi was first found out by greek mathematician Archiemedes during reign of king Hero. he said that value of pi can't be defined exactly but it is between 220/70 to 223/71. in practice for easy calculatons its value is taken as 22/7=3.14285714285714

each terminating decimal quantity equals a non-terminating decimal. case in point: 0.a hundred twenty five = 0.12499999999 ... (9's repeat continually) 3.1416 = 3.1415999999 ... (9's repeat continually) a million.0 = 0.9999999999999 ... (9's repeat continually) for the reason that each decimal quantity that repeats continually is rational, it follows that each and all and sundry terminating decimal numbers are rational. of direction, the actuality that they are in a position to explicitly be written because of the fact the quotient of two integers could be greater convincing.

pi is a number which is the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle.so if u draw a circle of diameter 7 units its circumference is 22units and if u hav a circle of diameter 22 units its diameter is bound to be 7units.

22/7 = 3.142857...
pi = 3.141592...
It isn't that far off, so it's not a bad estimation.
